Darragh Tolan has been appointed to vice president for the Growth Emerging Markets at Boston Scientific in EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa).

Growth Emerging Markets (GEM) constitutes a cluster of markets including Russia, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and South Africa, in fact over 90 countries in total which have generated accelerated revenue growth since 2019. This diverse region is a strategic priority for Boston Scientific and the company is expanding its footprint to meet growing demand from healthcare systems to make more technologies accessible and improve patient outcomes.   

Over twenty years at the company, Darragh’s career has been a testimony to his passion for medical devices, his focus on improving patients’ lives, and his leadership mindset. A week was all it took Darragh to realise he wanted to make working at Boston Scientific a lifelong career. “It was the culture. Everyone was focused, empowered and dedicated to creating life-changing solutions and improving patient care around the world, and that was something I wanted to be a part of,” says Darragh.

In his first ten years at Boston Scientific, Darragh held several roles in sales and marketing in both the Endoscopy and Urology and Pelvic Health businesses. In 2012, he was promoted to European director for Urology and Pelvic Health and in 2016 to vice president Endoscopy EMEA, where he achieved double-digit revenue growth for the business.

In addition to his business leadership, Darragh has been a champion of the company’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts and a sponsor of the LeadHER initiative, which focuses on supporting women in the workplace.

When COVID-19 hit in early 2020, Darragh jumped into the role of managing the EMEA response for the company which he likens to getting a “mini-MBA” in crisis management.

Now with a new role, Darragh is looking forward to the next chapter of his time at Boston Scientific: “I am thrilled to be embarking on this new adventure together with my family which is really excited to relocate to Dubai. Everything that GEM region brings is incredibly exciting. It’s such a diverse region with countless opportunities and I am confident that with the talented, dedicated team, we will continue delivering on our commitments to improve patients’ lives with our innovative products and solutions.“
